Pink Pearl apple
One of our most unusual apples, with beautiful pink blossoms, and pink fleshed apples, Pink Pearl is a delight any time of the year.
Developed by northern California apple breeder Albert Etter and released in 1944, Pink Pearl is one of his most well-known varieties. It is also one of the best tasting of the red-fleshed apples.
Here at Avella Orchard this tree is one of the first to bloom, and one of the first apples to ripen. Although listed as having "good storage ability", for us it doesn't last in storage, and is best eaten within a week of being picked. What is helpful is that the apples don't ripen all at once so there is a month of Pink Pearl delight.
Even though it is on a dwarfing (non-standard) rootstock, the tree appears to still be thriving.
