Summer Rose apple

SUMMER  ROSE  APPLE

A wonderful prolific early season apple, dating back to 1806 in New Jersey.  One of Avella's smallest and also most beautiful early August apples.  With their sweet flavor and light texture, Summer Rose are a favorite with kids!

Like many early summer apples, does not keep.  Good flavor for fresh eating, use for sauce or cooking once soft.
Many smaller apples have fallen into disrepute and out of commercial production.  However, as one mother observed, they are perfectly kid-sized!
Older apples tend to have a lot of local names - and Summer Rose has also been known as "Glass apple", "French Reinette", Lippencot's Early", "Lodge's Early", "Woolman's Early", "Woolman's Striped Harvest".   The names can tell you a lot about the apple - it shines up to a gloriously glassy surface with beautiful shades of yellow-pink-peach-coral.  It is quite early for a fresh eating apple, and has been well-loved in many different communities.
